First off, let me acknowledge that I know it has been a long time coming. For years I’ve ran into people in the streets and read tweets from people who discovered my music and instantly became supporters. At times I’ve made decisions about my career that even the people closest to me didn’t understand. Those decisions weren’t about money. They weren’t about fame. I made those decisions because I understand that there are people who wish the best for me. So I had to do my best to get the best for myself. On the other hand, I learned that being afraid to take a risk or being afraid to fail, resembles being afraid of success from afar. So in order to be successful, you must take risks.
FPeople would often assume that I never took the risk of signing with a major label in the past because I may have wanted an astronomical amount of money or that I may be difficult to work with. None of which are true. I just wanted a label/team that whole heartedly believed in me as a creator and not just as a rapper. Money is the easy part. I can make money selling drugs or selling burgers. The hard part is creating the ideas. People with money invest in people with ideas, the creators. The creators get paid, the go off to create more. Then the people with the money reinvest in the creator’s new idea and inform more investors about their previous successful investments. More investors invest. If the creator dies, the money stream weakens. At the end of the day, being rich in ideas has always been more important to me than the actual money but I needed a team who believed in and accurately valued my ideas. I think I found that with Russell Simmons, Steve Rifkind, their staff, and Universal Records…. I know many people close to me expect me to TURN UP but I’m not going to celebrate like I won the lottery. Lottery winners don’t have obligations. I’m going to celebrate like I just got hired for my dream job because I know this is work. It’s time to work. 3D NA'TEEI can’t lie, I used to dream about this day when I was 10 years old. I dreamed about it a few years ago when my lights were off and I was sleeping on the floor. I dreamed about it from the back of police cars and every time I make a song for you. I’m extremely grateful and I know I’m extremely blessed. The fear of failing is present but that fear does not have half the impact on me as this dream has. To those who’ve been downloading my mixtapes over the years and and putting your friends on my music, thank you again for supporting me for so long. Thanks to the Most High and to each and every one of you because this is a dream I’ve had since I recorded my first song back in elementary school. |
