In case you've been living under a rock, the NBA and Commissioner Adam Silver has - effective immediately - banned soon-to-be-former owner of the Los Angeles Clippers Donald Sterling from essentially every NBA activity, from making executive decisions regarding the Clippers to even attending games, for life. Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has been banned for life by the NBA in response to racist comments the league says he made in a recorded conversation. NBA commissioner Adam Silver said Tuesday that he will try to force the controversial owner to sell his franchise. Sterling has also been fined $2.5 million, and Silver made no effort to hide his outrage over the comments. Silver said a league investigation found that the NBA's longest-tenured owner was in fact the person on the audiotapes that were released over the weekend. I won't provide my own opinions on this matter, but instead I'll let you - the visitor - speak your piece/peace below in the comments section. How do you think this will affect the NBA? Will the Clippers be more motivated than ever throughout the playoffs, or will this be too much of a distraction/stress for them to handle? Leave your words below. And now, one of the better Lil Boosie interviews you'll come across. Ever. The Tupac of Baton Rouge was in the building looking so clean. Things weren't all good last night in Los Angeles, as T.I. and Game were involved in a heated standoff outside off the infamous Supperclub.
According to TMZ, it all stemmed from "mutual acquaintances" of both Game and Tip being denied entrance to the club and eventually brawling with security. Security put a hurting on said acquaintances, the rappers came out in their defense, were welcomed by police, and the standoff began. After things cooled down, the two injured men were taken to LAPD's Hollywood division, but were released shortly after as no one filed charges. Footage of both the actual fight and the standoff can be viewed below. With the Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors squaring off on Sunday for Game 4, you had to expect fans to drop the thunder on Clippers owner Donald Sterling for his alleged racist remarks. West Coast rap veteran Snoop Dogg and Lil Wayne have come forward to lash out against an alleged leaked recording of Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling making racist comments about African Americans.
Clearly upset by what Sterling's audio contained, Snoop aired out the NBA executive. "A message to the motherf*cker that own the Clippers, you b*tch a**, redneck, white-bread, chicken sh*t motherf*cker. F*ck you, your mama and everything connected to you, you racist piece of sh*t. F*ck you." (Snoop Dogg's Instagram)Weezy F. Baby also did not hold back on how controversial his comments were. "This dedicated to motherf*cking Donald Sterling. First of all, I'ma sum it up for everybody that I believe feel this way. I'ma sum it up for everybody on my side of the field and I'ma sum it up for everybody on my side of the gate and I think you know what I mean when I say that. Uh, f*ck you. That simple. That easy. If I was a Clipper fan, I wouldn't be one anymore. It's that simple. But, if I was a Clipper player, a current Clipper player, you wouldn't see me on the court anymore in that uniform and an apology wouldn't do it for me. It wouldn't work for me. A team meeting wouldn't work for me. ... I'd stand up for myself and I'd understand that pride and respect isn't a team sport. Those are the things you're supposed to have within yourself." (TMZ Sports)Maybach Music Group's Meek Mill went on a Twitter rant early Saturday (April 26) morning against Sterling. "Donald sterling is the definition of racism .... He could b your judge.... Your doctor.....you teacher etc... Bcuz we let these things happen 2 many times""Skin color means nothing .......our souls are no different!!!! Just bcuz you have money don't mean you will b judged different by GOD'"""street rappers" can perform across the world except Vegas how is this possible!! #Racisminourface and yet we are still silenced""most of these old racists are the ones really in power!! Jayz is no different than the younger rappers he spoke about the same stuff we did" (Meek Mill's Twitter)Sterling's controversial audio recording surfaced online heading into the weekend. "It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you're associating with black people. Do you have to?" (3:30) -- "You can sleep with [black people]. You can bring them in, you can do whatever you want. The little I ask you is not to promote it on that ... and not to bring them to my games." (5:15) -- "I'm just saying, in your lousy f******* Instagrams, you don't have to have yourself with, walking with black people." (7:45) -- "...Don't put him [Magic] on an Instagram for the world to have to see so they have to call me. And don't bring him to my games." Doc Rivers is one the most successful African American coaches in NBA history and he is also the Los Angeles Clippers’ head coach. Earlier this afternoon, Rivers responded to the Clippers’ owners’ racist comments for the first time. According to Yahoo Sports writer Marc J. Spears, Rivers states the team is upset by Donald Sterling’s recent racist comments. According to Spears, Rivers states that players even considered boycotting the next game over the comments:
Magic Johnson has already announced that he and his family will no longer attend Clippers’ games as long as Sterling is the head coach. Clippers’ point guard, Chris Paul says an upcoming statement from the NBA Players Union will be the only response Clippers players will give. Paul is the President of the NBA Players Union.
Karma writes the best scripts for life. Earlier today, it was revealed that Los Angeles Clippers’ owner Donald Sterling is set to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the NAACP at their annual gala on May 15th.
Alice Huffman, president of the NAACP California State Conference stated that “If these allegations are proven true, we are extremely disappointed in Mr. Sterling”. However, Sterling receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award was pre-planned: In the past 24 hours, everyone from current NBA players to 20 year veteran rappers have publicized their disgust over Los Angeles Clippers’ owner Donald Sterling’s alleged comments. In less than 12 hours, two of the most recognizable and influential NBA players, along with the President of the United States, voice their opinions on the comments and even suggests revoking Sterling’s ownership.
Obama addressed Donald Sterling’s alleged comments during a news conference with Malaysia’s prime minister Najib Razak, yesterday (April 26th). Obama called the comments “incredibly offensive racist statements” and spoke on Sterling’s alleged character : When ignorant folks want to advertise their ignorance, you don’t really have to do anything, you just let them talk. That’s what happened here Obama admits that Americans “constantly have to be on guard on racial attitudes that divide us rather than embracing our diversity as a strength.” After stating he trusts NBA Commissioner Adam Silver will handle the matter accordingly, Obama does not see this as an isolated incident of racism: The United States continues to wrestle with the legacy of race and slavery and segregation, that’s still there, the vestiges of discrimination. We’ve made enormous strides, but you’re going to continue to see this percolate up every so often. I think we need to steady and clear in announcing it and teaching our children differently. Earlier today (April 27th), Michael Jordan always had a strained relationship with Bulls owner Jerry Krause during his playing time which Jordan has publicly admitted. As a part owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, Jordan issued a statement that addressed Sterling’s alleged comments from both the player and owner perspective: I look at this from two perspectives – as a current owner and a former player. As an owner, I’m obviously disgusted that a fellow team owner could hold such sickening and offensive views. I’m confident that Adam Silver will make a full investigation and take appropriate action quickly. As a former player, I’m completely outraged. There is no room in the NBA – or anywhere else – for the kind of racism and hatred that Mr. Sterling allegedly expressed. Magic Johnson appeared on ESPN’s NBA Countdown earlier today and revealed that former Laker owner Jerry Buss took Johnson to an event Sterling hosted in the first week he arrived in Los Angeles in 1979. After stating that he believed he developed a friendship with Sterling, Johnson explains why Silver’s punishment has to be drastic: [Adam Silver]‘s gotta come down hard. [Donald Sterling] shouldn’t own a team. [Sterling] should stand up and say ‘I don’t want to own a team.’ Especially when you have African Americans that are in his apartments, coming to the games and playing for him..and coaching for him. Check out videos of Barack Obama and Magic Johnson addressing Los Angeles Clippers’ owner Donald Sterling’s alleged comments: Yesterday (April 26th), Chris Paul stated that the Los Angeles Clippers’ players would not address the comments allegedly made by the owner of their team, Donald Sterling. However, earlier today (April 27th), the Clippers players staged a small protest during the pre-game of their playoff matchup.
