Frank Ocean’s ties to Odd Future just became a bit odder. Yesterday (June 25th), reports surfaced that Ocean had cut ties with Odd Future management team 4Strikes Management and Life or Death PR.
Ocean, along with the other members of Odd Future, has been managed by 4Strikes Management since 2010. According to reports, Ocean informed 4Strikes that he would be leaving the management team earlier this Spring. Ocean also fired his PR team, Life or Death PR and has now joined Hollywood agency, ID PR. In an statement exclusively obtained by XXL, a representative of Life or Death PR stated they are “relieved” Ocean is no longer their client. Dame Dash does not want to bring back Roc-a-Fella Records, but he would not mind making some more money off of its history. Yesterday (June 25th), Dame Dash hinted that he would be willing to work with his old friend Jay Z for the 20th anniversary of Reasonable Doubt. Jay Z’s debut album was released on June 25th, 1996 and the ownership of the album’s masters were split between Dash, Jay Z and Kareem “Biggs” Burke. On the 18th anniversary, Dash went to his personal Instagram account to voice his interest in working with Jay Z on the 20th anniversary in 2016: Me and jay still own this together we might have to do a reasonable tour…maybe for the 20th anniversary…that way we could all make some money… I don’t see why he wouldn’t…might have to holla #freebiggs While Dame claims that he owns the rights to Reasonable Doubt with Jay Z that will soon change. When Jay Z became President of Def Jam in 2004, a 10 year hold on his masters was placed that will expire at the end of this year. Jay Z will retain full ownership of his masters and publishing rights. Last year signed a deal with Warner/Chappelle Music to have them help administer the copyrights for Jay Z and other Roc Nation artists. Check out Dame Dash’s Instagram message below: As of today (June 26th), Ice Cube’s son O’Shea Jackson is the only relative of from the original N.W.A. group to have a starring role in the upcoming biopic, Straight Outta Compton. According to Dr. Dre’s son, not only did he try out for the role but his father was one of the people who decided against his son acting in the movie.
Dr. Dre’s son, Curtis Young recently appeared in the film My Trip To The Dark Side and will be appearing in a new film entitled Blame It On The Hustle. While Young’s acting career is burgeoning, he informed XXL that his biological father felt it was not enough to portray him in the upcoming N.W.A. biopic: I actually tried out for the role, ’cause the casting company called me. But my father wanted somebody with more acting experience, and I haven’t been acting for a long time, so I’m happy for the guy that got the role. It’s one of those things where we want what’s best for the movie and for the film. I had a lot of fans that were upset about it, but whatever’s best for the film, that presents it in that light, then I’m for it. Young was born on December 15, 1981 and first met Dre after a DNA test proved Dre to be Curtis’ biological father. Curtis currently has an album out on iTunes entitled Doctor’s Note and an upcoming album Product Of My DNA that he has been working on since 2010: It’s a story based on my life, what I’ve been through, and me finding out who my father was in a DNA test. Feel good music at the same time, but it’s gonna be more story tracks, more all-around talking about the struggles and me overcoming them. Really more personal, things I have to get off my chest. Let people understand who I am and know me for Curtis Young and not just as the son of Dr. Dre. Over the past year BitTorrent has transformed the way Hip Hop artists presented their music and brand to the public. After working with Curren$y & Jet Life, De La Soul, and Public Enemy, the file sharing service has now linked up with Cam’ron for a new bundle package. Cam’s First Of The Month interactive EP will include a web series, music videos, film, art, and more. The first bundle will be available for download on July 1 through BitTorrent. A new package will then drop the first of every month. The company has referred to its innovative approach to delivering artist’s content as “Mixtape 2.0 Culture.” The goal of BitTorrent Bundles is to allow the performer to connect directly and instantly with fans by sharing more than just music. “Our long-term vision is not to be a content store or another walled garden. Our vision is to create the technology that puts the store into the content and to let the artist decide what the exchange should be,” said Matt Mason, Vice President of Marketing for BitTorrent. “They know best what the value of a fan is and can judge that better than we can. Our job is to create the best possible tools for creative people, and then get out-of-the-way of them and their fans.” Going by BitTorrent’s track record, Cam’ron’s decision to team with BT could be a very lucrative venture. The partnership between BitTorrent and Jet Life has been a success. The label’s “Jet Life BitTorrent Bundle” featuring the Red Eye mixtape was downloaded over 4 million times, growth of Jet Life apparel on their website increased by 500%, and advanced tickets sales for their tour jumped 30%. Jaya informed her mother of her and according to reports from TMZ, Andrea Kelly says her father still refers to her as his daughter. Andrea even goes as far as stating “That’s like calling him a background singer, not the king of R&B.” Jay has stated in the Q+A that he desires to have “surgery and the medication to help me (be) who I was supposed to be”. According to her mother, Jay has yet to have that surgery. Bobby Womack beat cancer, but today (June 27th) he has left the fight. After addressing one another through diss tracks and interviews, The Game and Lil Durk finally met face-to-face this weekend. Both rappers were at the same party in Los Angeles, and the two men and their entourages exchanged words. Going by video captured of the incident there did not appear to be a physical altercation, but the L.A. resident and the Chicago native can clearly be seen addressing each other. The issues between Game and Durk stemmed from Tyga’s song “Chiraq To LA.” The cut featured a verse from Game that including a few verbal shots aimed at Durk. The Coke Boys member alleged that Tyga paid Game to jump on the song and also referred to “Game’s wife” when asked what woman he would most like to have a conversation with. Game later revealed on Twitter that the two sides have settled their beef. It was just two weeks ago that Disney Channel star Zendaya Coleman was named as the leading lady in an upcoming Aaliyah movie on Lifetime. The actress/singer is now no longer participating in the production. “Because it’s someone that I honor and I respect so much, it has to be 128 percent, especially for all her fans, including myself,” said Zendaya at the BET Awards. “I didn’t feel like it was all the way there, so I didn’t want to do that. And when the time comes when it’s done right and it’s 100 percent, by all means, I will be the first person there ready to go.” Aaliyah’s family has expressed their dissatisfaction with the One In A Million performer’s life being depicted in a television movie. Her cousin and president of Blackground Records recently said he felt Aaliyah deserved a major motion picture to be made about her. The Lifetime network confirmed Zendaya’s departure from the biopic via Twitter. How the f**k you in the game like ten years strong? Y’all b***hes still can’t write your on damn song?” rapped a pre-famous Nicki Minaj on a The Come UpDVD freestyle back in 2008. The Young Money member reminded the world last night that she’s still not feeling rappers that have ghostwriters.
During her acceptance speech at the BET Awards, Nicki took time to make it clear that she is the only person that writes her lyrics and took a swipe at some of her peers at the same time. After winning for Best Female Hip Hop Artist, the “Pills N Potions” performer told the audience, “When you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it.” While Nicki went on to claim that her statement included “no shade,” it did seem to be directed toward fellow nominee Iggy Azalea. Nicki added, “I hope and pray that BET continues to honor authenticity.” Earlier this month Nicki took issue with a Forbes magazine feature about Iggy. The original title of the piece was “Hip Hop Is Run By A White, Blonde, Australian Woman.” Negative feedback led to the headline being changed, but Minaj still told Power 105′s The Breakfast Club, “Listen, all Forbes needs to worry about is my finances and when I’m going to be selling Myx Fusion for $250 million. That’s all they need to worry about.” It appears the BET Awards weekend ended in violence. TMZ reports the Los Angeles night spot Supperclub was hosting a party attended by Hip Hop stars Meek Mill, T-Pain, Busta Rhymes, and The Game.
Apparently around 2:30 am local time, someone fired a gun outside the location. No one is reported to be hurt. The shooter is still at large. Meek Mill went to his twitter to say this: #wasntme y'all gotta chill wit my name in everything! http://meekgr.am/6Xd Meek sent out a tweet this morning including the hashtag “wasntme.” It is not clear if the tweet was addressing the supposed incident at Supperclub, other reports that his show at another location erupted into a riot, or rumors that his chain was snatched over the weekend. Suppercllub is the same locale where Game and T.I. were involved in an incident with police last month. AllHipHop.com will update this story as more information becomes available.
