Maybach Music Group leader Rick Ross has shared his thoughts on the publicized friction between Young Money boss Lil Wayne and Cash Money head Birdman.
In Ricky Rozay’s perspective, Baby has not treated Weezy with respect as a Cash Money artist. “Weezy’s my homie. I was just with Weezy the other night at the club — I don’t have one with Birdman,” Ross said when asked if he still has a relationship with the Cash Money CEO. “If you read The Source Magazine you would see right now, and really me seeing Wayne going through as an artist, him being a boss, me idolizing Birdman at a time, looking up to Lil Wayne being the first artist to make so many feats. Not just as an artist but as an artist coming from the South. That’s something that I took personal. So for me to see the way things are transpiring, I can’t respect that and I don’t respect that.” (“The Breakfast Club”) Mac Miller’s new album GO:OD AM will be dropping next month, so to promote it he stopped by The Breakfast Club to chop it up with everybody’s favorite morning show. Check out the interview below.

Nelly was out in NYC this week to promote his new DJ Mustard-produced single “The Fix” featuring R&B crooner Jeremih. And just llike every artist does, Nelly made his way by the Hot 97 studios on Tuesday and chopped it up with the gang from the Ebro In The Morning sans Rosenberg unfortunately. Sitting down for a lengthy 32-minute chat, Nelly spoke about his new music, BET Uncut coming back, strip club culture, Drake/Meek ghostwriting scandal, and a whole lot more. He even touched on some more socially-conscious topics like what’s happening in Ferguson and being active in the community as well. Check out all that and a bunch more in this interview above. Migos claim that their sophomore album is finished.
When Migos released their debut album, Yung Rich Nation, a few weeks ago, they did so without Offset, who still remains behind bars after being arrested in April. Quavo and Takeoff said that he was present for 85% of the recording sessions, and listening to the album, it's clear that he's rarely absent from the tracks. What's shocking, though, is that Quavo is now claiming that the trio already have another album complete. In an interview with DJ Whoo Kid, Quavo and Takeoff claim that they have “another album that’s sitting back already. It’s all about timing.” They wouldn't share too many more details, but also discussed a track that they have with Lil Wayne in the vaults called "Fantastic," and said they'd love to collaborate with Nas. Future Hendrix is a nice man. for the people to codeine'd up to not understand his music, he's start a track-by-track breakdown of his first No. 1 album, DS2. The Atlanta Gawd broke down the first three tracks of his LP in a new video, saying of his album: "You may not drink lean, but when you listen to this music, it's going to make you feel high." That's a helluva
Since Meek Mill called out Drake for relying on it, ghostwriting has been a hot-button issue in rap once again. Wisely, someone decided to ask Ice Cube (who allegedly wrote the majority of the lyrics on N.W.A.'s Straight Outta Compton) to weigh in on the new controversy during a recent interview.
"I don't think it ever mattered in record making," Cube said when asked about the importance of self-penned lyrics in hip-hop, "I don't think people care what it takes for you to make a good record, just make sure it's good." Also comparing the process to building a house, Cube added that you do get "extra points" in his book if you write your own rhymes. Chris Brown and Tim Westwood discuss a variety of topics. After a performance on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, Chris Brown participated in a raucous, possibly drunken backstage interview with Tim Westwood. They covered a wide variety of topics in 8 minutes, including Brown's first UK trip in several years, his stint in jail, his collaboration with Tyga, his beef with Drake, and his relationship with Rihanna. The overall theme of the interview was Brown's increased maturity. He explained that fatherhood has made him immeasurably more mature and given him something to live for. Breezy performed "Bitch Better Have My Money" on Cyprus and laughed off Westwood's questions about his relationship with Rihanna, calling her the "homie." Indeed, he was a happy camper throughout the interview. "The way I move forward is to smile and keep my positivity up," he said. [SOHH highlights a hot record every week and offers a behind-the-scenes look at the smash in Singled Out. I’ve been knowing [Lil] Wayne since 2002, 2003. We always just had a relationship. We always hollered at each other. He’d holler at me, I’d holler at him. We did a lot of mixtapes together back in the [day]. We also had the song, “Mrs. Officer,” that was on his “Carter III” album. Watch HNHH's extended interview with Strange Music CEO Travis Oguin.
HNHH sat down for an illuminating interview with Strange Music CEO Travis O'Guin to discuss his history with Tech N9ne and what it takes to be successful as an independent artist or label. A successful businessman in the furniture and real estate industries, O'Guin recognized that Tech N9ne's talent was being mismanaged and partnered up with him to form Strange Music around 2000. A believer in the Japanese business philosophy that the middleman should be cut out, O'Guin built a Strange Music studio and started making all merch in-house. "The times in which we had a middleman, somebody between us and our money, were the times that weren't so pleasant," he said. O'Guin detailed the difficulties of being an independent rap label, which were much greater in the early '00s than they are today, and laid out a template for what it takes to be successful as an independent. "This is more than about money, liquor, weed, bitches," he said. "It's about music first... When you are truly and wholly in control of it, and you care about it, and you won't take no for an answer and you won't give up and you won't fail, that's really what Tech and I are all about." Take a tour of Strange Music HQ in Kansas City below and head here to watch our recent interview with Tech N9ne and Seven. |
