Cash Money Records head Birdman is finally talking about the drama surrounding him and protégé Lil Wayne amid a publicized falling out.
A sneak preview of radio host Angie Martinez‘s upcoming interview with Birdman, set to air today (July 28) at 4 PM EST, has landed online. “That’s gossip,” Birdman tells radio host Angie Martinez. “Nicki [Minaj] and Drake ain’t going nowhere. Regardless. … Not just for him, [Wayne’s public remarks about Cash Money] was a shocker for everybody. Never thought [Wayne] would be saying nothing negative about me. Ever. In no lifetime. I never thought that would ever happen.” (Power 105.1) 50 Cent discusses his history of competition with Kanye West, Jay Z and Ja Rule.
50 Cent has recently been in the headlines concerning his filing for bankruptcy, but his recent interview with DJ Semtex was all about the music. During the sit-down, Fif reflected on the various competitions is his career, whether they be with Kanye West, Ja Rule, or Jay Z. As usual, he made some surprising statements, but generally kept the shade to a minimum, and gave props where it was due. Check out some key excerpts below. Ebro responds to the Funk Flex failure last night, and responds to The Breakfast Club.
Last night, Hot 97 promised listeners a Drake diss record from Meek Mill, to be premiered by Funkmaster Flex. However, the song never came through, and thus it left Hot 97 and Funk Flex in the lurch. This has led to a petition surfacing on the net, that calls for Funk Flex to retire, as well, Charlamagne Tha God got in on the jabs by calling him "Donkey of a Day." Meek Mill didn't help the situation when he trolled fans with an audio clip of someone yelling (labeling it as a Drake diss), leading us to wonder if there ever really was a diss track to begin with? While that debate rages on, Hot 97's Ebro is picking up the slack this morning. Ebro spoke on the Funk Flex debacle, putting it in perspective, and later called out The Breakfast Club. "Power 105, your entire existence is based on us, and everyone knows it. And you can pay Bossip, you can pay all them black little gossip blogs to post you all the time, fam, and you can confuse everyone to make you think you really about this hip-hop thing, my g, you not. And everyone knows it. Which is why when anything important in hip-hop happens, it happens on Hot 97," Ebro said. Watch the full video response below. Future was out in New York for his free concert recently, and while he was there he stopped by Hot 97 to chop it up with Funk Flex for a little bit.
Joey Bada$$ & Statik Selektah Go 'Back & Forth' with Noisey About Music Critics and Meeting Jay Z7/27/2015 Joey Bada$$ and Statik Selektah joined Noisey's Back & Forth series, like A$AP Rocky & Schoolboy Q have done in the past. On the Croatian coast, the two discussed lazy hip-hop critics, meeting Jay Z for the first time, meeting each other for the first time and the talent that was Capital STEEZ.
Statik said Bada$$ was about 17 years old when the two first met, and before Bada$$ left Statik's house party, he had him listen to a couple beats. Bada$$ liked one of them, they recorded the song in 10 minutes, and it wound up being "Don't Front" on 1999. Watch the back and forth between the two above. Former NBA player Rick Fox has been hosting a new show, After Dark, on the NBA Network, where he sits and chats with a variety of athletes, musicians and actors. Since the NBA season ended, I've not really watched ESPN that much. I'm not a big MLB fan, I don't even know how to "score" in golf, and Prim Siripipat (do your Googles) doesn't show up enough on the network for me to sit through an episode of First Take like that. So, I missed when Big Sean visited the home of Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless recently.
While there, Sean got to talk shop about his hometown the Detroit Lions, his video "One Man Can Change The World," Riley Curry singing "Blessed" and more, before having to deal with Skip once again troll during the sit-down by talking about the Dallas Cowboys. In other words, can the NFL season start already? Ciara sits down with the gang from Ebro in the Morning.
To promote her newly-released Jackie album (which is named after her mother), Russell Wilson’s new bae, Ciara, decided to stop by the Hot 97 studios on Tuesday and sit down with the gang from Ebro in the Morning (sans Ebro). During the lengthy, 25-minute chat, Ciara talked about a plethora of things going on in her life right now, from her new album and the video for “I Bet”, to whether or not she keeps up with blogs, past relationships, and plans for her son’s birthday among other things. And of course, the topic of her new boy toy, Russell Wilson, was brought up as well. Got a few minutes to spare, then suggest you check out this entertaining chat above. Cop Jackie on iTunes today! Let's be honest: at some point, we have all wondered what, exactly, is going on with the artist formerly known as Mos Def these days. Musically silent since 2009's The Ecstatic, it had felt that he'd been in the headlines for non-musical reasons (child support issues, that brutal force-feeding video) instead. While some of his (older) songs have appeared in an Apple commercial and a weird advert for Las Vegas' The Cosmopolitan, it wasn't until he popped up with A$AP Rocky in London and announced that he will guest-star on his upcoming sophomore LP At.Long.Last.A$AP that fans have finally seen some semblance of new tunes from the eclectic, reclusive artist.
That somewhat changes today, however, as he's broken a bit of silence and sat down with Beats by Dre - in London, nonetheless - to speak in length on a variety of topics. He explains his reason for relocating outside of America and how it has helped him musically, where he is at mentally, and much more. This is one of the few times that we get an interview from Mos that's longer than 30 seconds, so I'd definitely suggest you watch it above. Mass Appeal has a new series, "SUPER...", where they ask various artists what their alter-ego would be. After Dave East turned himself in to Denver, Colorado's champion of the 420 crusade, current cover artist K. Dot revealed that he would name himself "Hardbody." A "chameleon" to whatever environment he's in, his mask- and costume-less hero would have to power of love to change the global society. His arch-enemy? "Lucy." Find out what that means, exactly, when you hit play below.
