Chief Keef hologram concert to broadcast in Chicago, NYC, & Los Angeles.
Chief Keef's shortened hologram performance last week wasn't the end of his hologram venture. It was just the beginning. Keef announced that he plans to hold another benefit concert via hologram in mid-September, this time broadcasting simultaneously at venues in Chicago, New York, & Los Angeles, reports Red Eye Chicago. He is partnering with producer Detail to put together an "all-star hip-hop lineup." Though they plan to perform at Madison Square Garden, a MSG rep said, "We are not involved in this in any way." Alki David, who owns both Hologram USA & FilmOn, the label to which Keef is signed, insisted that his team was in legitimate talks with MSG. "The Madison Square Garden Co. is a powerful partner in this event. Plus we have the time, the means and the community support to fight back if [Chicago mayor] Rahm [Emanuel] is foolish enough to try to censor us again," he said via spokesperson. Chris Brown and Tim Westwood discuss a variety of topics. After a performance on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, Chris Brown participated in a raucous, possibly drunken backstage interview with Tim Westwood. They covered a wide variety of topics in 8 minutes, including Brown's first UK trip in several years, his stint in jail, his collaboration with Tyga, his beef with Drake, and his relationship with Rihanna. The overall theme of the interview was Brown's increased maturity. He explained that fatherhood has made him immeasurably more mature and given him something to live for. Breezy performed "Bitch Better Have My Money" on Cyprus and laughed off Westwood's questions about his relationship with Rihanna, calling her the "homie." Indeed, he was a happy camper throughout the interview. "The way I move forward is to smile and keep my positivity up," he said.
The Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter, Eric Bellinger, updated his Choose Up Season track - which originally featuredTeeFLii and Pleasure P - with some more familiar faces: Fetty Wap and2 Chainz.
Big K.R.I.T. weighs in on "plantation weddings" on The Nightly Show.
In the past few months, Larry Wilmore has hosted rappers like Killer Mike on his Comedy Central program, The Nightly Show. After Mike weighed in on Rachel Dolezal, Big K.R.I.T. visited the show last night to weigh in on something a little less contentious, but no less insane. Wilmore leads K.R.I.T., actor Ed Helms ("The Office," "The Hangover") and staff writer Robin Thede in a discussion about the new trend of people holding their weddings at old plantations. Krizzle offers up his own experience as a born and bred Southerner, and the discussion ends up being both enlightening and humorous.
R. Kelly announces the release date to his forthcoming 14th studio album. The King of R&B will release his upcoming album titled, Buffet, on September 25. Kellz describes the album as catering to a diverse fanbase:
“You got hip-hop, you got old school music with the ‘Step in the Name of Love’ type music, ‘Happy People’ type of music, then you have traditional R. Kelly sensuous, sexual music. It’s just a variety of things.” Kellz will play a headlining show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on the same day the album arrives in stores. Tickets go on sale tomorrow.

The wait is over, Meek Mill's response has officially arrived. But before getting into it, let's run it back...
After calling out Drake with allegations of him not writing his own raps, Meek has met with a response in the form of "Charged Up" – a subtle diss record, debuted on OVO Sound Radio over the weekend. Days go by, rumors of a response to the response begin to spread, and then ... nothing. Instead, Meek flaunted his relationship with Nicki Minaj in his "All Eyes On You" video. Seemingly fed up with waiting, Drake took a more aggressive approach on a second diss track, "Back To Back" – which he dropped at 4:30 in the morning (smh!).
It's hard to believe this is the Migos' debut studio album, but the trio's Young Rich Nation has arrived. Formerly titled Y.R.N.: Tha Album, Migos changed the name of the album most likely due the record label's ability to market the album based on what "YRN" stands for.
The album only has one official single, "One Time," though songs like "Pipe It Up" and "Recognition" have leaked. Young Rich Nation has just two features -- Chris Brown and Young Thug (who was on one of my favorite Migos songs, "YRN") -- and has production from the likes of Zaytoven, Deko, Murda Beatz and more. Buy Young Rich Nation on iTunes, and stream it below on Spotify.
Miguel's Wildheart has been out just over a month at this point, and the best stretch of the album has "NWA" right in the middle of it. The laid back, smooth song now has a visual attached to it.
Following a quick snippet in the life of Miguel, he hops out of bed (that, of course, has a woman laying in it), walks down the street to pick *something* up, then hops in the car with Kurupt and they two drive away like two NWAs. it seems like a simple life in Cali. For a dude like Miguel, I'm sure it always is. Watch the video above, and cop Wildheart on iTunes.
University of Cincinnati Police Officer Ray Tensing was indicted Wednesday on a murder charge for shooting motorist Samuel Dubose during a traffic stop this month.
If convicted, Tensing could go to prison for life, said Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters in a press conference in which he played body camera footage of the shooting. Long in-the-works N.W.A. biopic "Straight Outta Compton" is finally scheduled to drop two weeks from Friday (on August 14th), but what about its almost equally-hyped soundtrack? Earlier this month, we got word from director F. Gary Gray that Dr. Dre would be executive producing, and it would featureEminem and Kendrick Lamar, which only made for more anticipation. Yesterday, Ice Cube let slip that the album will arrive on Friday.
Speaking with Gray, Jason Mitchell (who plays Eazy-E in the film) and his son on Power 99, Cube announced that the soundtrack will drop this Friday, August 1st. No other details were shared. In the rest of the interview, the cast and crew members of "Straight Outta Compton" discuss a possible reunion tour, police violence and Suge Knight. Lil Kim doesn't want her ex-boyfriend to see their baby daughter.
Lil Kim has filed a domestic lawsuit against Bronx rapper Mr. Papers, her ex-boyfriend and the father of her 13-month daughter Royal Reign. Kim, and Mr. Papers, whose real name is Jeremy Neil, are in the midst of fierce custodial battle. According to Bossip, Kim hasn't allowed Neil to see their daughter since the couple split 11 months ago. He filed for visitation rights last month, and the judge granted his one-day-a-week request under the condition that a court-approved monitor be present for all visits with his daughter. Kim filed the lawsuit after failing to attend a July 9 hearing. Neil denies having laid a hand on her. “She’s playing really dirty now with the domestic situation,” said Tasha Hilton, Neil's publicist. “There has never been any domestic violence.... he’s not trying to take custody, he’s not trying to take her. He is literally just trying to see her. He’s been trying to do it very quietly.” Meek talks politics, police, and Nicki Minaj in a new interview.
Meek Mill has been catching a ton of flack recently for inciting a beef withDrake on Twitter, and it appears that he may be headed to the studio to record a diss track of his own. A new interview with Billboard put the beef in perspective, as Meek opened up about his relationship with Nicki Minaj and his experiences with the police growing up in Philadelphia. Meek said he is reluctant to imbue his lyrics with a political message likeKendrick Lamar and other peers. "I'm scared to be political," he says. "You get too powerful and more people try to take you out. My son ain't trying to hear that his dad got put away because he was fighting for the country." Kendrick Lamar continues to be an agent of positive social change.
After police arrested a 14-year old during a street gathering in Cleveland, the crowd chanted the refrain from Kendrick Lamar's "Alright" in protest. Here's how the person who uploaded the video described the scene... "While everyone was demanding his release an officer pepper sprayed the crowd and further escalated the situation. In unity and solidarity everyone was demanding that he be released, and we stayed and protested until they released him!" Kendrick Lamar continues to be an agent of positive social change. He recently designed a pair of Reebok Ventilators that reads "red" on one shoe and "blue" on the other. Though the shoes are a symbolic message, this was an instance of people using his music as a rallying point to achieve social justice. And it worked. “I'm not saying I'm gonna change the world, but I guarantee that I will spark the brain that will change the world. And that's our job, to spark somebody else watching us" -Tupac.
G-Unit head 50 Cent might have recently filed for bankruptcy but that’s not stopping him from doing good deeds around the country this week.
According to reports, 50 helped deliver a few thousand dollars to a food bank in Ferguson, Missouri Tuesday (July 28). Rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson presented a donation Tuesday to the St. Louis Area Foodbank in Ferguson. The money ($5,050, of course) was provided by Beam Suntory and STL’s Major Brands distributors, whose topper, Susan B. McCollum, was on hand for the event. (STL Today)
Erykah Badu dropped off an hour-long mix.
Erykah Badu may not be as prolific as she once was with her own music, however she hasn't totally disappeared from sight either. It's been five years since the singer's last album, New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh), but we've seen Ms. Badu pop up in the news from time to time, whether it be a feature on SURF, a twitter beef with Azealia Banks, a performance at the Roots Picnic, or calling out Black Eyed Peas. Yesterday Erkyah decided to debut an hour-long mix she did of some vintage jazz, funk and soul, likely all influencers on her own sound. The mix includes songs from Earth Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, James Brown and more. Take a listen below. |
