Young Thug chose to waive his preliminary hearing in court.
Young Thug recently had a string of different charges brought against him. First, he was arrested for making "terroristic threats" to a mall security guard, after he threatened to shoot the mall cop in his face. Following that, after the police raided his home, he racked up more charges on drugs and weapons. He's out on bail for the former arrest, and was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing in DeKalb County court on Monday. He waived that option though, meaning the case will proceed directly to trial-- a preliminary hearing would have given him a chance to have the case thrown out if there was not sufficient evidence. We'll keep you posted as the case goes to trial

Pell shares a breezy new record called "Vacation (One Week)".
Pell is said to be working with TV On The Radio's Dave Sitek on some new material, but before we get to hear that, he's shared a new loosie for your summer holiday. "Vacation (One Week)" uses the immortal formula of pumping up a soul sample with some hard drums and heavy filters, giving it the unmatched nostalgic feeling that summers often conjure. The New Orleans rapper takes the opportunity to drop some casual brags, and reflect on his come-up, celebrating his care-free lifestyle with highly quotable punchlines. Pell is currently on a sold-out nation-wide tour with Kehlani, but he's still planning on releasing his new album this fall. Look out for it. I’ve been knowing [Lil] Wayne since 2002, 2003. We always just had a relationship. We always hollered at each other. He’d holler at me, I’d holler at him. We did a lot of mixtapes together back in the [day]. We also had the song, “Mrs. Officer,” that was on his “Carter III” album. Fetty Wap makes history.

HNHH sat down for an illuminating interview with Strange Music CEO Travis O'Guin to discuss his history with Tech N9ne and what it takes to be successful as an independent artist or label. A successful businessman in the furniture and real estate industries, O'Guin recognized that Tech N9ne's talent was being mismanaged and partnered up with him to form Strange Music around 2000. A believer in the Japanese business philosophy that the middleman should be cut out, O'Guin built a Strange Music studio and started making all merch in-house. "The times in which we had a middleman, somebody between us and our money, were the times that weren't so pleasant," he said. O'Guin detailed the difficulties of being an independent rap label, which were much greater in the early '00s than they are today, and laid out a template for what it takes to be successful as an independent. "This is more than about money, liquor, weed, bitches," he said. "It's about music first... When you are truly and wholly in control of it, and you care about it, and you won't take no for an answer and you won't give up and you won't fail, that's really what Tech and I are all about." Take a tour of Strange Music HQ in Kansas City below and head here to watch our recent interview with Tech N9ne and Seven.

Dreezy and K Camp team for "Call It What You Want".
Dreezy is yet another young Chicago artist who's making waves right now. Releasing her Call It What You Want EP today, the singer has put together five solid tracks with plenty of notable collaborators. The most immediately flashy is "Ain't Rocking With You," which pairs Dreezy with ATL hitmaker K Camp, as well as sought-after producer Southside of 808 Mafia. Thus she gets the Kill Bill siren treatment that has been all the rage since "Commas," but she doesn't have to rely on trend-hopping to make a hot record. Still, it's cool to hear her on this kind of record.

Even before Drake clapped back at Meek Mill a second time with his "Back to Back" freestyle this morning, an eager Meek fan launched aGoFundMe page to help get Meek's response to Drizzy rolling. As of now, Meek has yet to respond to Drizzy (or even Safaree for that matter) on wax, but this donation page wants to change that ASAP, as they state that they want to help Meek pay for the diss track.

50 Cent has recently been in the headlines concerning his filing for bankruptcy, but his recent interview with DJ Semtex was all about the music. During the sit-down, Fif reflected on the various competitions is his career, whether they be with Kanye West, Ja Rule, or Jay Z. As usual, he made some surprising statements, but generally kept the shade to a minimum, and gave props where it was due. Check out some key excerpts below. If Lil Wayne doesn't know what the word "ironic" means, he does now ... he's being sued by a rapper for not forking over royalties ... which is exactly his gripe with Birdman.
Rapper David Banner claims he signed a contract in 2008 with Wayne's Young Money Records to produce two songs for Wayne -- "La La" and "Pussy Monster" -- featured on "Tha Carter III." Banner claims Young Money told him in 2012 he was owed $138,787.19 in royalties ... but he never saw a cent. Banner also claims Young Money has gone radio silent, so he has no idea how much more he's owed. Banner also says the same thing happened in 2009 with "Streets Is Watchin." He claims he was told he's owed more than $15,392.57. As TMZ first reported, Wayne is locked in a lawsuit against Birdman and Cash Money Records for $51 million ... claiming he's owed money for his never-released album, "Tha Carter V."
New York rapper Safaree Samuels has lived up to the hype by releasing his rumored “Lifeline” Meek Mill diss track to the masses early Tuesday (July 28).
The new track takes aim at Meek but also reserves a few bars for ex-girlfriend Nicki Minaj. “You dream about Drake numbers in your nightmares,” Safaree raps. “But y’all hating on me and my little career/No matter what you buy I’ll be right there/I’m in the back of her mind like a new n*gga/I’m everywhere, TMZ making news/I left and I don’t want it back, the proof is right there/Thank god I’m free my n*gga, sh*t felt like a light year/You got a botched face n*gga – this n*gga bent outta shape with a gorilla face/My bars on ‘The Pinkprint’ no one will ever match/ My d*ck- print little n*gga you could never match.” (“Lifeline”) |
