The late DMX's New York memorial won't be open to the public after all, contrary to initial reports, but organizers have announced that both services this weekend are set up to be livestreamed so that those who wish to pay their respects can tune in from home. Two services will take place this weekend. The first — dubbed the "Celebration of Life," which had been planned as a public event at Brooklyn's Barclay Center — will now take place on Saturday (April 24) through DMX's YouTube channel at 4 p.m. ET.
The second private service, X's "Homegoing Celebration," will be hosted by BET's YouTube, taking place at 2:30 p.m. ET on Sunday (April 25). Plans for a public memorial had to be adjusted due to New York State's current COVID-19 gathering restrictions. "Attendance to both the 'Celebration of Life' memorial and the 'Homegoing Celebration' will be restricted to close friends and family solely due to health and safety guidelines," reads a press release. "New York State currently limits indoor arenas to 10 percent capacity. New York State COVID-19 testing guidelines and protocols will be followed."
